Goldie is a New Zealand painter who specialises in portrait paintings. In this piece theres a Maori man who has a ta moko on his face showing his maori culture but he's also wearing European clothes combining the differentiated cultures together.

Dick Frizzel
The Meaning Of life
This piece is a work by Frizzel in response to Colin McCahon. He uses the same palette and structure just different words the sentence ' The meaning of life is us' is Frizzels comment on McCahon's body of work and in relation to how it stands in New Zealand, and the greater world.

Abstraction - Work that does not have recognisable figures/imagery within.
Figurative - This is work that depicts recognisable objects or images within.

A Story of Painting

Hokusai The Great Wave of Kangagawa
This work is a block print that was made by a Japanese artist. This is his most famous print. I like this piece because its quite detailed for a block print. I also like the way he has made the waves all chaotic looking. I think the artist is trying to say how big the wave is compared to the mountain. This painting was made in the Horeki era. This painting was fresh and new to Europe it revolutionized the way Europeans painted by changing their perspective of painting.

Leonardo Da Vinci Mona Lisa
I love this work because the detail is amazing! I love everything about it i find it to be very immaculate. I think Da Vinci was very dedicated to this painting as he carried it with him for years. This painting was painted during the renaissance which was a period when they mostly painted portraits for wealthy people.
